YAKINTHIA FESTIVAL IN ANOGIA CRETE GREECE
With the poetry Erotokritos
as central topic:

The poet Kornaros does not give us the lyrics of the songs, which Erotokritos sings in the night under the window of Aretis, because he is afraid time could pass over them. Instead he describes the impression, which these songs have on the audience, especially on Aretousa, who loves him in the songs, without ever having seen him. How were these words then? Maybe you can find them in the Mantinades, which the young people sing for their "Aretousas" at night in the streets.

Loudovikos of Anogia was born in the last century in Anogia. He remembers white winters. At the age of 11 he saw the sea for the first time. As far as he can think back, he always wanted to paint. 1979 he made the aquaintance of Manos Hatzidakis, who was in Anogia to lead the music festival of Anogia then.
Manos told him to paint by writing songs. That's what Loudovikos is doing until today.

Psarantonis builds up what he has teared down before. He is on a way without return.
He denies the immobility of the musician and freed his expression in each of his performances, a lyra like we have never heard one before, a consistant battle with his instrument. His body concentrates on each word, which he speaks out soulful.

Lizeta Kalimeri
dedicated the gift of her voice to the modern Greek artistic song and his creators. Her clear voice has the color of the sand and rises the quality of the song in her sensitivity.

Friday, June 30th, Meidani square:
The "Band of Florina" played for us. The group is the result of the cooperation of the traditional group of the Balkanis Brothers and the
musician Floros Floridis.Bands like the orchestra of Tassos Balkanis and his sons held the sound of the military orchestras of the 19th century in the Balkans alive. They used Western instruments, but the music was the one of their traditional dances with the scales, rhythms and way of playing of the Balkans. Floridis developed this sound further in direction to "Ethnic Jazz".

On Saturday July 1st the actor Michalis Aerakis declamed parts of Erotokritos. Loudovikos of Anogia accompanied him on the Mandola.
The central speech held by the Athens university professor Giorgos Giatromanolakis with topic Erotokritos followed.

In the evening of July 1st the group "Sinithis Ypopti" played at the amphitheater Nikos Xylouris. They startet as a group of friends in the 80ies and became well known professionals. The group consists of
Christos Thivaeos, Alekos Vasilatos, Tassos Lolis and Vassilis Vasilatos.

On Sunday July 2nd an international symposium with topic Erotokritos was held at the National Youth Institute of Anogia under the presidency of Giorgos Grammatikakis, professor for astrophysics at the University of Crete.

In the evening of July 2nd at the open theater St. Yakinthos in the mountains: Olga Layaridou brought us her unrest and got us under her spell. She denied her role as famous actor, loved by the people and claimed the role of a simple girl, who wants to be grown up.

Her performance was followed by a concert with topic: Four ways to Erotokritos.
Loudovikos von Anogia, Nikos Xidakis, Psarantonis and Giorgos Koumentakis presented us their personal musical attitude towards the work of Vinzenzos Kornaros.

On Monday morning 3rd July the devine service took place at the chapel of St. Yakinthos.

In the evening we had a theater event at the amphitheater Nikos Xylouris performed by the children of the Kindergarten "Rodomilia" with the title "In Erotokritos' days ..."
(…) In the scope of the play, which was performed by 5 and 6 year old children, descriptions of natur were presented to the audience in a special and impressive manner. The Night speaks with the Full Moon at the first conversation between Erotokritos and Aretousa.

"The idea to build a chapel came from the archbishop of  Rethymnon,
who himself laid down the founding stone."
